The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare in Zimbabwe, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Sports, Arts and Culture, has received around $265,000 of medication from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to treat neglected tropical diseases.

In 2010, the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare carried out research into child health and found most children at primary level have bilharzias, worms or both.

By handing over the drugs, the WHO will enable Zimbabwe to work on treating these diseases.
